The current status of Dixons as a progressive multi-million pound supplier of decorating products is a far cry from the days when Joseph Dixon set out to trade as a wallpaper merchant 150 years ago.  At first it was a ‘one man’ business with Mr. Dixon operating from the limited surroundings of his mother's front room in Coleshill Street, Birmingham. But the founder of the company was clearly ambitious - indeed, he originally traded as 'The London Wallpaper Company' as he felt this sounded rather impressive!  His business acumen soon led to the establishment of outlets in Birmingham and Wolverhampton.
